New time for Tuesday Yoga: now starts at 8pm.  Last class for Hola Chicos and Baby Massage on Tuesday before half term so do drop in (10.15 for Baby Spanish or 11.15 for Massage). On Thursday, come along to a celebration of  the taking over of the Living Room at The Mill by the LITTER BUGS, from 6pm, with nibbles and music.  Children and families welcome to come and see the parade! NEW for this week: Enjoy English with fun, games, and conversation for English learners in a new evening slot, starting on Wednesdays, 7.30 – 8.30pm, details here. Plus the return of the Kids Art Club on Thursday from 3.30 – 5pm,  a series of themed art and craft activities leading to a small exhibition to celebrate the work! Come and spend the dark afternoons being creative with your children, book or drop in. The Mill Voices goes from strength to strength, planning some seasonal tunes, so join them on Thursdays from 7.30, and Grow Your Own Theatre’s monthly Drama and Making session is here at 10am on Saturday with Pet Dragons!

On Saturday 29th and Sunday 30th November (10am – 2pm each day) Share UK are running an intensive workshop for 7 – 12 year olds. From complete beginners, to young pros, digital experts will help take young coders to the next level. Plus there’ll be the chance to take part in a Dragon’s Den style challenge to pitch a digital projects to a panel of experts, with the chance of winning some great prizes.

The Climbing Frame Space Explorers blast out of the atmosphere!

In this workshop as Space Explorers, children will use art and creativity to explore the universe, create planets, nebulae and black holes, and learn about the life of an astronaut on board their very own spaceship. The workshops will culminate in an exhibition of work for families.

Drawing in Three Dimensions

Drawing in Three Dimensions is the first activity in the new STEP UP Arts Programme held at The Mill, a project that has been generously funded by the Big Lottery Fund. In this series of weekly art workshops sculptor, Esther Neslen, will show participants new and interesting ways to think about materials, space and sculpture. These six art sessions are suitable for adults of all abilities.

School’s out for the summer and the holiday period has started but The Mill’s doors are open as ever.

bikeHow about joining the knitting group on Wednesday 29 or Friday 31 July? You can drop-in and learn how not to drop a stitch or share your knitting skills with others. On 2 August you can join the Sunday Cycle – a gentle two-hour cycle ride paced well for all ages and abilities, exploring the River Lea and surroundings.

The latest workshop activity in the Step-Up programme – Sharp Pencils – starts on Tuesday 28 July and is for people who like to write or would like help developing their writing and join other creative people in a relaxed and informal setting. Spaces are limited so email sonalidb @ gmail.com to book a place.

Sharp Pencils Writers’ Workshop

Would you like to write, but don’t think you have time?

Would you like help developing your writing?

Or are you a writer who would like to spend time with other creative people in a relaxed and informal setting?

The second activity in the new STEP UP Arts Programme held at The Mill, a project that has been generously funded by the Big Lottery Fund. Join experienced screenwriter and playwright Sonali Bhattacharyya for 5 sessions in a supportive environment , share and discuss work. Each session will focus on a particular area of writing (e.g. character, structure, dialogue), with exercises, advice and support from Sonali. The aim is for each participant to have completed a ten minute stage play, screenplay or a short story, by the end of the workshops.

Hatt Reiss will be delivering a 6 week Art & Animation course at the Mill as part of this year’s Step Programme funded by the Big Lottery.  Hatt is the third artist to Step Up this year, beginning a new series of art making classes which explore the flora, fauna and architecture of Walthamstow.  We will be experimenting with printing, poetry and animation.
The classes are free to attend and all people are welcome to come along regardless of experience.

This fun and original art workshop, led by Lemon ArtLab, is for families with children aged 5 to 12 years, and will be held on Saturday 14 November 2015, from 2pm to 3pm. This creative and engaging workshop focuses on one of the great masters of art: Vincent van Gogh. This event is a great way for families to enjoy time together creating wonderful masterpieces to take home. Join in the fun and learn about what really happened to van Gogh’s famous ear and explore the details of some of his most famous paintings. You’ll have the opportunity to decorate your own van Gogh-inspired cookies and create a painting in the style of van Gogh, with that particular technique that makes a van Gogh…. a van Gogh!

Calling all teenagers who love music and singing! Join fully qualified and DBS checked teacher, Ania Hardy, in singing and performance workshops for all ability levels every Wednesday at The Mill from 4.30pm to 5.30pm, during term-time. In these creative and fun workshops you will have the opportunity to perform songs in a fun and supportive atmosphere. Ania will give you specific feedback tailored to help you improve your performance skills. Come along with ideas of songs you would like to sing and have some fun! You will be encouraged to prepare your favourite songs – songs you love and know inside out – so that you will not need to use a lyric sheet when performing.

No need to book: drop-in classes £8 and the 6th session is FREE!

Parent-Child Led Play Workshop

Please note: The session planned for the 19 August 2016 has been cancelled.

Join Renetta Fake at The Mill in her Parent-Child Led Play Workshop on Friday 12 August 2016, from 10am to 1pm. In these fun sessions, Renetta will set various tasks and will talk through the benefits of play. Referring to play as ‘Special Time,’ Renetta will discuss the advantages of parents engaging in child-led play with their children.

The recommended ages for these workshops are children from 5 to 11 years. It is suggested that one adult attends with one child, however, if you need or would like to bring more children this is also possible. These sessions are a great opportunity for parents to gain a better understanding about how to make the most of play with their children.

Spaces in these workshops are limited to 10 parents with a child (or children). Please book early to avoid disappointment. It is also very important participants are punctual to sessions.
